Recover, Reupholstery & Upholstery Restoration
Brooklyn Workroom artisans are experts in reupholstering and recovering a wide range of period furniture pieces using the same techniques and materials used in a piece’s original construction. Whenever possible, our Master Upholsterer recommends the materials employed initially be replaced with the same to retain the furniture's originality, integrity, and value.
The upholstery techniques used in furniture production vary depending on the era of the piece. There are three main types: Modern (also known as "Mass Production"), Mid-Century, and Traditional. The original upholstery material and technique used in the piece will determine the time, material, and cost required to reupholster it.
For instance, due to budget constraints, clients may choose to replace the layers of horsehair and cotton batting used to construct a chair's seat and back core with high-density foam and Dacron wrap. Conversely, some customers may prefer to restore a chair to its original upholstery construction using traditional materials and restoration methods.
Brooklyn Workroom works closely with its clients to determine the most appropriate materials and upholstery techniques that fit their budget and the desired outcome for the upholstered piece. We are flexible and can significantly modify most designs based on our client's preferences.
